Serving Witch Realness: Kiki’s Delivery Service
Flying into Day 11 of my Spooktober: 31 Days of Halloween, I look to the folks over at Studio Ghibli with Kiki’s Delivery Service. Full disclosure, I haven’t seen a lot of anime and my only Studio Ghibli film that I half-remember is My Neighbor Totoro and I couldn't tell you anything about the plot.
Before you run for the hills, hear me out. I’ve never been the biggest fan of animated films. I liked cartoons as a kid and I’ve been known to watch a Disney movie on occasion but it was mostly for my kids. I’ve never had the desire to sit down and watch a full-length animated movie. It's always been a taste thing not something against anime like people who don’t like avocado because of the texture. After watching Kiki’s Delivery Service, I’m rethinking other things I may have missed out believing I didn’t like it. Do I really not like oatmeal? Am I really a fan of horror movies and roller coasters?
One of the best parts of the entire movie is Kiki’s animal companion, a black cat named Jiji. Jiji is the literal definition of a ride or die friend. Getting her out a few jams through the movie. I would watch all the anime if I could get an entire movie about Jiji.
What is your favorite Studio Ghibli film and character? Do you think I should watch all the movies in order of release or is there a better way to see all of them?
