The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

On Day 14 of Spooktober 2021 I rewatched the 1949 Disney classic The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. The movie is made up of two short films. The first film is about Mr Toad, based on the book The Wind and the Willow by Kenneth Grahame, and the second is based on the short story, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving.

For my movie night, I fast forwarded through the first short to focus on the adventures of Ichabod Crane. There isn’t a more classically American story than Ichabod’s run in with the headless horseman. Disney does a great job staying true to Irving’s story. The film is a classic and a must watch for any fan of Halloween and is perfect for the whole family. I would go as far as to make it a full learning experience and read the short story before the movie.

In October of 2019, my husband, Josh, a I took a trip down to the legendary town of Sleepy Hollow, New York. We spent the day touring the town and even walked through the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery to find Washington Irvings grave. It was as creepy and cool as you can imagine.

Even though it was the middle of the day during our visit, the weather was overcast and the mood seemed foreboding. At one point, I swear we crossed paths with a ghosts and a group of vampires.

I didn’t brave a night visit even though they offer lamplight tours of the cemetery for fear of meeting with the headless horseman...bwahaha!
