Growing Fangs

For Spooktober Day 6, I head to the Wonderful World of Disney to check out one of their Launchpad Shorts films, Growing Fangs, directed by Ann Marie Pace. The Disney Launchpad Shorts Incubator is a program that grants underrepresented filmmakers from diverse backgrounds the ability to produce projects for their Disney+ streaming site.

This nineteen-minute-long film focuses on half-human/half-vampire teen, Val Garcia. Val’s problems begin when she is forced to leave her human school and human best friend to attend a school for monsters. Her close-knit Mexican family including her human father, vampire mother and grandmother, and half-vampire little brother don’t understand how hard it is to fit in at the new school. Val is expertly played by actress Keyla Monterroso Mejia. The cast also includes comedian Cristela Alonzo.
